Aleta

The harsh reality is that incarcerations on your record can make it challenging to find meaningful employment. After being released from prison, Aleta found herself in a court ordered halfway house while struggling to get her life back on track. Aleta first learned about Goodwill’s Laundry & Linen Services Program through a roommate who was employed with Goodwill, also trying to rebuild her life.

Liz

Liz worked in the Small Mammals department for her first rotation. She handled her food prep duties well—one that even included “bat salad” made of a mixture of bananas, cottage cheese, and dog food! Liz also cleaned dishes after the bats and animals were done eating.

King

King successfully completed his first rotation in December as a Project SEARCH intern at the Milwaukee County Zoo. He worked in the Education department. He did most of the prep work for the classes that included die casting, animal shapes, taking inventory of classroom supplies, tracing animals, and cutting and gluing.

Brittany

“Now that I met my goal of getting a job, my next goal is to find my own place.”

Brittany W. reached her first goal when she was hired as a Dining Room Attendant at Serb Hall in January 2015. She assists with event set-up duties which include setting out tables/chairs, linens, rolling silverware, cleaning and bussing tables. She works in a team environment where she is able to demonstrate her strong individual working skills.

If you ask Musetta about her future dreams, she does not hesitate with her response. “I want to get my degree in child care. Then I want to move to California and work in child care.”

Gino

Gino is a man of many talents and as he started his path with Goodwill’s Work Services program, he soon expressed how he wanted something different and more for himself. Gino was able to find that at Hardee’s Restaurant.

Terry

Terry always wanted to be the father and husband his family could count on – a role model to his children and responsible contributor to society. After several years in and out of incarceration for past mistakes, Terry needed the world to see the changed man he had finally become.

David

Following an earlier suicide attempt, David had just been released from a court-ordered detox plan and was overwhelmed with depression and anxiety. Not wanting to fear for his life any longer, David was clean and sober for the first time in years and wondered what life had in store for him.

Chris

When he came to Goodwill, Chris was shy, only sharing a word or two when people would talk to him. Though excited to work, he was nervous about meeting new people and being in his new environment.

Brenda

Brenda’s story is very similar to many you might hear. She worked at a job she loved at a company that valued her for more than 35 years, and then decided that it was time to retire. In retirement she enjoys many activities she’s always loved, like cooking, exercising, playing cards and having lunch with friends.

Jason
