When he came to Goodwill, Chris was shy, only sharing a word or two when people would talk to him. Though excited to work, he was nervous about meeting new people and being in his new environment.
A few years later, Chris was different person. Excited and engaged in his work, Chris says he enjoys coming to work because he likes the people and has friends.
Chris became a member of Goodwill’s Community & Day Services Program, which helps prepare people for employment in the community. Chris worked on several assembly projects and some of his favorites included packaging safety products, assembling cheese nozzles, and working in the Goodwill DataShield document destruction area.
Chris enjoys receiving a paycheck, which he uses to purchase his own clothes, and for his hobby of collecting firefighting memorabilia. But, for Chris, the impact of having a job has gone far beyond simply receiving a paycheck. Chris was able to accomplish important goals in his life and he is now connected to a group of peers that he’s happy to call his friends.
