Spring Ahead!

Find me on:

Dennis Basso spring collectionAn early spring prediction wasn’t to be on Groundhog Day, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start looking forward to more light, longer days and fresh colors. American designer Dennis Basso served up soft tones mixed with high glamour details in this look back at his Spring and Summer 2015 New York Fashion Week Collection. His designs have a classic sense, which makes it hard to peg them to a certain trend. However, it’s the fabrics and ornamentation that make them runway ready. Mr. Basso is well known for his high end designs in addition to his line of clothing on QVC.

TRENDS TO SPOT:

  • Soft florals
  • Muted tones
  • Monochromatic looks
  • Cream colors (off white)
  • Day dresses
  • Evening Gowns
  • Capes and capelets
  • Lace
  • Macrame / Crochet applique
  • Mixing textures
  • Fur embellishments
  • Shiny brocade fabric

Next time you’re shopping at Goodwill keep in mind that emulating designer fashion isn’t as difficult as you might think. Just break down the elements of each look and go from there. You’ll notice sleeve lengths in Basso’s collection that range from sleeveless to three-quarter length. Maybe opt for a sleeve length that’s new to you? Maybe even layer some capri pants under a sleeveless a-line dress that might be too short to wear on its own. The gowns are very feminine and would be appropriate for bridal, prom, or an evening gala. The small faux fur collar on a blouse could be a simple DIY project.

Fashion should never intimidate, it should serve as a jumping off point for creating your own personal style. Take a stroll through the aisles at Goodwill and see what seems “spring fresh” to you! With our selection you can’t go wrong and supporting the important work we do is absolutely priceless!
