Tie Story

For working men who have to wear professional apparel, there’s nothing quite like the neck tie to perk up a dark suit during the wintertime. It makes perfect sense to add to your (or your husband, or significant other’s) tie collection by shopping the men’s area at your local Goodwill. With less than $20 in my pocket, I went in search of some cool (and perhaps even a bit artsy) ties that I could bring home to spruce up my own wardrobe, or give as gifts to dapper friends.

3 Legging Looks!

Love them or hate them, leggings are here to stay. For a lot of women leggings are an easy alternative to jeans and slacks. But, I have to say that as a rule, leggings should always be worn with a top or dress that has some coverage. I mean, if you’re working out at the gym then this rule could be broken, but as daytime or nightwear, it’s always better to opt for a modicum of modesty.

Sweater Weather

This time of year is the perfect time to take stock of your winter sweater collection. Go through and take out any sweaters you didn’t wear last season and put them aside to donate to Goodwill. This will clear the way to purchase some new-to-you pieces from a store in your area.

Made in the Shades!

Goodwill is a great resource for all things fashionable if you have the eye for it! (Pun intended.)

Accessories are a great way to update anything you might wear every day of the year. That accessory could be a handbag, shoes, watch, jewelry, or my personal favorite—sunglasses.

Fall Florals

Just because fall is on the way doesn’t mean you need to put away the florals just yet. Depending on their colors, floral patterns can and should be worn year-round. I’ve collected a few examples here of how to wear floral patterns right on into the fall.

Flannel IS Fashion!

Flannel shirts for men and women are always on the must-have list for this time of year. When you’re out shopping at Goodwill, take a look and see if you can find one for yourself! I was inspired by the way Nautica paired flannel shirts with a casual tie when I took in their show at New York Fashion Week a few years back. It’s another way to get more use out of our favorite fabric, and bring a new idea for styling.

Labor Day Getaway Wardrobe

With the last holiday weekend of the summer ahead, planning for comfort and style is important when attending family functions, picnics and festivals. 5 Easy Pieces

There’s a fashion formula that all the stars know, and you can too! I call it their “off-duty” look. I recently saw photos of Julia Roberts in Paris just casually strolling down the street while looking quite stylish. What was she wearing? A variation on a theme of menswear, that’s what. There are just a five elements you’ll need to pull this look together for yourself:

Dressing Area DIY!

I’ve been a thrift shopper ever since I was a little kid, that’s why working with Goodwill all these years has been a blessing for me. I love sharing ideas on how items you can find at our stores, or elsewhere, can help develop and transform your personal style. For example, I have an enormous and unconventional bedroom without a traditional closet space, so I had to come up with a way to create an area where all my clothes and accessories can be stored.

Boho Kimono!

A kimono is a loosely-used term for a robe with a square sleeve. In ancient times the Japanese immigrants from China adapted this traditional undergarment to be worn on its own with an Obi sash. From that moment on it became a fashion inspiration for centuries of designers and their devoted followers. I found an  image from aliexpress.com, a fast fashion online retailer that reminded me of a look one of my coworkers had on one day. The outfit is compromised of a kimono, real, faux, or just a top with the kimono sleeve, a tank top, and a pair of Daisy Dukes (or distressed denim shorts).

Colorful Looks = Menswear Fun!

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of covering the Nick Graham Spring and Summer Collection for 2018 during Men’s New York Fashion Week. I went backstage, and you’ll see from my photos in the slideshow below, that it’s not just the ladies who get primped before a runway show! You might not know his name, but Nick Graham is the founder of the Joe Boxer brand of underwear for men.
