Sizing Up Designer Fashion

Posted by Jamie Klinger-Krebs on Apr 2, 2015 12:30:00 PM

One of my favorite sayings of all time is “dress the body you have now, not the one you might have in the future.” In other words, don’t put off exploring fashion choices because you’re not at your goal weight. The truth is, we need to love ourselves as is, and do the best with what we’ve got. Of course, seizing the opportunity to be happy AND stylish isn’t just for other people we see in fashion magazines, but for every one of every size and shape. That’s why when I heard about Smart Glamour, I knew I had to share their ideology with all of you. Part of the fashion company’s mission statement says, “SmartGlamour has three main very broad goals: to empower women through clothing and help them on a road to body acceptance, to make good quality clothing that is sold at affordable prices, and to cut away at women-on-women hate that stems from insecurity and the belief that beauty and brains can not go hand in hand.” During my time in New York City for Fashion Week, I was invited to Smart Glamour’s runway presentation, but I was, unfortunately, unable to attend. However, their public relations department sent me some wonderful images from the show for me to share with all of you. These photographs will hopefully inspire you to rethink your own wardrobe choices and also take a look at the top spring and summer trends that are a great fashion fit for a woman of any size and shape. So here from designer Mallorie Carrington are some of my favorite style ideas from the Spring/Summer 2015 Collection.

Here we have a colorful wrap skirt in a fabulous print, worn with a great hot pink t-shirt. Notice her fun statement necklace and ankle strap shoes, both very important pieces for spring and summer!

This print is the ultimate fresh spring and summer look, and the ease of the wrap styling of this dress makes it a simple choice for the discriminating fashion-forward woman. Prints like this always have a graphic sense because of the grid-style pattern, and they really pop especially in bright shades of blue like this one!

The off-the-shoulder top in an abstract print, pairs well with this high-waisted pencil skirt. Keep a look out for high-waisted slacks, skirts and shorts to be the must have for spring and summer!

Another off-the-shoulder top worn with a fitted pant in the latest length. The calf length of these pants is great for showing off your shoes and the slimmer fit really accentuates the bold color and ruffled detail of the top.

A keyhole cut-out top with ¾-length sleeves is a good staple to have in your wardrobe. It can be worn with any number of bottoms, but I especially like it here with this a-line -style print skirt. I also love the asymmetry of the shoe choice which lends interest as well!

This jumpsuit is EVERYTHING! The long, flowing pant leg and the fit at the waistline are very flattering. The back features a small cut-out for just a hint of skin. This is a classy and sassy look that would look great on a variety of women!

Sharing ideas is what great style is all about, so I’d personally like to thank Smart Glamour for promoting such a beautiful message to ALL women. Sharing is also what Goodwill is all about. When you donate or make a purchase at one of our stores, you’re giving someone a chance to work and be a productive part of their community, and their family. That’s not just smart, it’s genius!
