Energy Saving Tips

At Goodwill, we strive to help you save money on many things in your life. We want you to stay cool this summer without breaking the bank on energy costs! Courtesy of Consumer Energy Center, these tips will show you what to do before it gets too hot.

  • Cook faster! Cooking with your microwave uses 2/3 less energy than your stove.
  • We love this tip, because it's so convenient. Putting your dishes in the dishwasher, rather than doing them by hand, uses less water. Then, select air-dry to save even more!
  • Having a large amount of food in your fridge keeps it from warming up too fast. Keep it stocked to help save, each time you open the door.
  • Use a programmable thermostat. This will allow you to set it to be slightly warmer when you are away.
  • Unplug electronic devices and chargers when they are not in use. Some electronics continue to use electricity, even when switched "off."
