Dale does a glamorous look to welcome in the New Year! This wonderful winter white wool suit with real fox trim and beautiful rhinestone closures, is the creation of film wardrobe designer Maria Dionisiou for her signature collection—and it cost only $14.99 at Goodwill! We modernized it with these Bamboo brand faux snakeskin platform heels done in a multicolor metallic. The simple drop rhinestone earrings were just $1.99, and Dale’s own rings complete the fashion story. When you run across something as fabulous as this suit in your size, you must buy it!! This suit could also be used for just the skirt, or just the jacket as separate pieces. Goodwill is just the place to find a unique item that becomes a legendary part of your dress-up wardrobe. She looks great don’t you think?
The models you see in this blog are actual Goodwill shoppers who donated their time to participate in our annual Amazing Looks photo shoot. All clothing was selected from our very own Goodwill Store & Donation Centers and styled by Goodwill Fashion Expert, Bjorn Nasett. Hair and makeup was provided by Kitty Tierney of Impressions and all photography was created by Jessica Kaminski of Refinery Milwaukee.
All images for Goodwill's Amazing Looks prior to 2019 were supplied by John Grant Photography.
Sam channels high-fashion looks with this fantastic tailored coat. There was no label on this coat, but just looking at the details such as the interesting texture, neutral tones of black, gray and white, the sleeve treatment, the full cut of the bottom of the coat, and the slash front pockets told me that it was definitely a special piece! You just can’t have too many coats in my opinion, and at $9.99 this was a major fashion score. She wears it with her own simple black dress, but we did add a great no brand handbag that was only $7.99 to take it up a notch. The round sunglasses add an air of mystery and chic as well. She wears her own heels in the photos. Just a stunning and stylish look for under $20!
Emily looks cozy and cool in this textured ensemble, doesn’t she? When I go shopping at Goodwill, I take into consideration not only how an item looks, but also how it feels! She’s wearing this gray-and-white Joseph A. sweater that was $7.99. It’s so soft to the touch with a fuzzy texture and fun polka dot vibe. With a statement sweater like this you don’t need to do much more than throw on your favorite pair of jeans like Emily did here! For extra drama, I also added another layer of texture with the infinity scarf, also in gray faux fur, that was $3.99. Her simple tennis shoes are her own and lend an air of casual comfort to the overall look. Always go for items that feel good to the touch and bring a smile to you and those who see you.
Matt knows that layering is the way to go with the fluctuating temperatures of wintertime. Having some great, but simple pieces can turn any casual look into fashion with flair. We started with a graphic t-shirt from Salvage that was $4.99 and topped it with a Merona brand sweater that was $5.99. The red/burgundy tones are perfect for winter and a great foil to the black of the t-shirt. Goodwill is a great place for denim, as illustrated by the medium wash Land’s End jeans Matt is wearing here. His own rugged hiking boots keep it all grounded. Just to spice it up we threw on a European-style scarf from Eileen Fischer for $4.99, and some fashion sunglasses that were $2.99. American men are a little reticent to wear scarves sometimes, but I say face your fears and get some stylish gear like this to bring out your inner rockstar! No matter what, Matt is confident AND fashionable in this easy to do look.
Sharita is a classic study in the power of a black-and-white color palette. Contrast is never out of style when it’s done as well as this look is. Start once again with a great dress from Goodwill, like this animal print from Kate Young for Target for $7.99. We topped it with a faux leather motorcycle-type jacket to toughen the look up a little. The structure of this rocking jacket from Elle was a steal at $6.99. Don’t forget to add some accessories too! Accessories are the quickest game changer in the fashion business. Here, we used some drop earrings that were $6.99, a necklace for $6.99, and a cuff bracelet for $1.49. TIP: Always carefully scan the jewelry cases at your local Goodwill for pieces that will complement items you already have. The shoes are also show stoppers, just like our model Sharita! They’re a classic Mary Jane-style in patent leather with an animal print by Anne Michelle—and they helped pull this entire fashion-forward look together for only $4.99!
Rose is demonstrating why Goodwill is a great place to shop! Sometimes it only takes one fantastic item to transform your style. TIP: Dresses are one of the best values to seek out at our stores. In our photos, you’ll see this denim dress from Forever 21 for $7.99 is perfect for year-round wear. All you really need with a dress this great are some fun accessories, such as the statement necklace for $9.99, the large gold cuff bracelet for $3.99, and classic tortoise shell wayfarer-style sunglasses that were $6.99. That great leather clutch handbag is also from Goodwill and it elevates the look even more (and it was only $4.99). The strappy platform shoes are from Rose’s own personal collection and work fantastically well with this winning look! Denim works for each and every season so keep an eye out for some great pieces on your next shopping excursion!
Kenzie, our model this month, is a great illustration of transitioning our summer-wardrobe favorites into fall. The $5.99 brown floral dress from Kensie, (yes, I know coincidental right?) takes on an autumn feeling the way we’ve layered it with a Coldwater Creek denim jacket that was also $5.99. It had some great details and embellishments that add another element of fashion to the entire look. She’s also sporting some statement earrings ($2.99) and some oversized bangles ($6.99), as well as a great brown leather handbag for $3.99. The off-white wedge-soled shoes are the models own. Even though they’re a bit summery, the way it has all been put together says she is ready for a fun, and fashionable fall!
Matt has got all the checks and balances covered in this casual, yet upscale look. Working from monochromatic elements like the GAP button down shirt in black-and-white check ($4.99), topped with a black-and-white striped cardigan sweater from the SP Collection at $6.99, you see just how a strong style statement emerges. Goodwill is a great place to find denim like these Lands End jeans he’s wearing here—they were a great bargain at just $9.99. His accessories, like the watch and the brown workbooks, are his own, but I added in a brown vintage Aramis weekender bag ($12.99) that upped the fashion quotient in a big way. So, as you can see, basic elements + Goodwill prices equal timeless, masculine fashion!
Zofia is heading back to school with some sassy style! There is nothing like some good denim pieces to use as a basis for your kid's wardrobe. These dark denim bib overalls from Cherokee were a bargain at just $4.99! They’re on trend right now for girls and boys of ALL ages. To keep things simple we added a graphic print t-shirt with a fun design for $3.99. Her own pair of cool flats makes it all work in harmony. She’s definitely going to rock this school year with humor and confidence because her mom made it easy for her to put herself together using all the resources Goodwill has to offer. Such a cute look!
Leo is a typical teen who just happens to be from France. But one thing is universal the world over—casual back to school looks. Most teenage guys are happy to have some shirts, shorts and jeans in their closets, plus their favorite pair of kicks (athletic shoes). That’s why Goodwill is such a great resource for those closet staples, such as the Perry Ellis designer v-neck t-shirt in a crisp blue stripe ($2.99), and khaki shorts from Cherokee ($3.99). He’s also wearing his own broke-in and totally comfortable sneakers. Just for fun, we had him style some vintage aviator sunglasses ($1.99), and braided belt ($.99). It just goes to show you that guys from all over the world just want to have fun, comfortable clothes as they head back to hit the books!
