Summer 2014 Clothing Trends

The warm weather has been teasing us all throughout spring, and this is definitely reflected in summer’s trends. While they’re welcoming warm weather wear with many of the trends, designers are also counteracting those chilly days with “heavier” looks too. We love this season’s trends, because they each have their own personality yet they work well together too. Pack away the winter clothing that’s overwhelming your closet, and make room for harem pants, wraps, coral, summer hats and global style!

harem pantsHarem Pants

Why they made the list: We’re not talking Aladdin or MC Hammer with this trend; 2014’s take on harem pants is sophisticated and modern! The way harem pants skim your thigh makes them really flattering, so they’re great for all shapes and sizes. And, the soft fabrics they’re available in make them oh so comfortable - a bonus for office outfits!

Pull it off: Don’t wear too slouchy of a pair, as this will take away from the modern feel of the pants. Go for a dark pair of harem pants, and pair it with a simple button-down shirt or plain tee. Accessorize with neutral heels, and minimal jewelry. This look is great for a day at the office, or even a fun night out!

wrapsWraps

Why they made the list: Although wraps usually give off a cold-weather feel, we love how designers are styling them for summer, because they’re perfect for those cool summer nights. They also transition well from the office to the outdoors, making them great for all occasions. Our favorite part? They are not meant to be body hugging, so all body types will look and feel fabulous in them!

Pull it off: We adore the look of a patterned wrap that’s accessorized with a belt. This look really cinches in the waist, and creates a gorgeous shape. We also love the casual look of a neutral wrap, draped open over a classic tee. This look evokes effortless style! Pair both types of wraps with dark ankle pants and heels in the office. At night, swap your work pants for dark skinny jeans.

coralCoral

Why it made the list: Coral is the perfect blend of orange and pink. We just love this color; it’s happy, bold and youthful all rolled into one! Coral can go from soft to intense depending on how you wear it, so one piece can really give your wardrobe some versatility.

Pull it off:  If you’re a first-timer to wearing coral, pair it with a soft neural, such as cream or navy. These tones compliment the bright hue, while keeping it as the focal point of your look. Coral can be very bright, and (even we admit) a little intimidating, so start with small accents of the shade; shorts, jewelry, or even a handbag. If you’re going full steam ahead with this trend, utilize a monochromatic coral outfit. Pant suits are great for this. Their shape is sophisticated, but the bold look is a fun way to show some personality!

summer hatsSummer Hats

Why they made the list: What would our seasonal trends be without a go-to accessory? This season, it’s all about big summer hats! Designers are having fun with these this year, by offering them in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. We love how a big hat really tops off an outfit (pun intended).

Pull it off: While you’ll find a variety of hats in bright colors, our ideal way to wear a summer hat is to find one in a neutral tone. This allows the hat to complement the outfit, without taking it over. Look for a large brimmed hat with a subtle detailing; just to give the right amount of color contrast. Another key detail is for the hat to be floppy in shape. This adds that relaxed feel that our summer wardrobe is craving!

global styleGlobal Style:

Why it made the list: Summer travels definitely inspired one of summer’s hottest looks! Designers are taking a cue from ethnic patterns and translating them into summer wear. They’re bold and playful – a great combination! The last few seasons have been dominated by geometric shapes and stripes, so these patterns are definitely a breath of fresh air for the fashion world!

Pull it off: We really love the look of tribal patterns when used on summer basics, such as rompers or sundresses. This gives a bold feel to a classic look. For office attire, pair a tribal print blouse with slim khaki trousers. For those summer nights on the town, don a trendy hi-lo dress with colorful tribal patterns.
