By Kyla Mrazek, Manager Marketing Projects, Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin & Metropolitan Chicago We’ve all done it, you have a few items that you have been meaning to donate, but you can’t find the bag you put them in. You look in your closet and see things you don’t wear, but you don’t remove them because you aren’t sure where to put it all. You grab a couple of household items, meaning to donate them, and you leave them on the cupboard or table only to have them end up back where you got them. The solution? Set up a Donation Station in your home! In our house, we’ve got a bin in the basement marked “Goodwill,” and next to it is a small box with bags so we’re always ready to donate! Any time we have something that we no longer need or use, we can put it right into the bin. When it’s full, we put the items in bags or boxes and make a trip to Goodwill, where the donation attendants make it fast and easy to donate. Goodwill has a lot of great options for bins and baskets, so when you find that bag of donations, stop in and browse the shelves to find the perfect receptacle for your Donation Station. Another great place for a Donation Station is a child’s room or playroom. It gets kids involved in the process too! Put a brightly colored bin or basket in your child’s closet or playroom, and anytime you have a piece of clothing or toy that you want to donate, the bin is right there! Teaching kids at a young age that donating something you no longer need can help another person, and save the planet, are important lessons to start early. I love watching our kids take items that they have outgrown and give them a second life at Goodwill. Donating is a wonderful thing. It helps clear our homes of clutter, the items make shoppers happy, and proceeds go to help fund Goodwill’s Mission. It’s a win for everyone! So make a Donation Station and you’ll be on your way to easy donating, every day. |
