My favorite meal of the year is almost ready to eat. I don’t know which part I like best. It’s a tie between mashed potatoes with home-made gravy and left-over turkey sandwiches on fresh baked rolls. But before we sit down to eat; we must set a proper table. When setting a holiday table, I learned where to place the knife and fork when I was a kid. I hope parents are still teaching their children the correct way!
That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with your table. Once you know the rules, it’s okay to break them! This year, I’m sticking with tradition … sort of.
I decorated a basic charger with the word “Gobble”. Cut the letters from magazine pages and decoupage them onto the rim of the charger with a sponge brush. Add two-or-three extra coats of Mod Podge. Be sure to gently hand-wash it.
I love layering plates and dishes. This is one meal where you can actually use every piece you set. I started with the green plate with a gold design and added a salad plate and bowl. Even the glass matches.
The knife and spoons are laid to the right of the plate and forks and napkin are on the left.
This simple napkin ring is a chenille stem with three color coordinating bells wrapped around a folded napkin. Then I tucked in some fall foliage. The kids can make these, they’re that easy. Use an extra bell to hold a place card.
I love party favors don’t you? I framed old family recipes in 5x7 wood frames. If you have grandma’s secret recipe for pumpkin pie, be sure to share it the rest of the family. Handwritten ones are priceless.
Because it’s Thanksgiving, give everyone a chance to share what they are thankful for. I filled a wood recipe box with silk leaves and tucked in cards that say “I’m thankful for…” Hand out pens so everyone can write something meaningful.
Everything on this table setting (except the silverware) came from Goodwill. You never know what you’ll find. Have a wonderful and delicious dinner!
