I’m always amazed at how expensive real pumpkins are. They’re great for carving jack-o-lantern faces to greet trick-or-treaters, but they only last a few days, and then end up on to the compost pile. I wanted to decorate pumpkins this year that I can save and re-use every Halloween. Fake pumpkins are plentiful at Goodwill from 49¢ to $1.99.
I collected a variety of sizes, styles and finishes.
Then I sprayed a couple with spray adhesive and sprinkled with glitter. For the orange one, I used an orange and a gold glitter working from the top down, applying the most at the top and less toward the middle. The purple one (a great color for Halloween) has glitter all the way around.
Over the years, I’ve decoupaged all kinds of things, why not pumpkins, too? I tore strips of black and white pictures from magazines and adhered to a ceramic pumpkin with Mod Podge®. It was a little dark and dull, so more orange glitter to the rescue!
I nestled my trio on a grapevine wreath and added a primitive sign. These will look great for years to come and won’t attract any critters!
