A redecorating project is never finished until the art work is hung. It doesn’t matter if it’s an original oil painting or a poster, art work should reflect the personality of the people who live in the house.
Goodwill is a great source for all kinds of framed art. Instead of simply hanging a found treasure, why not make it your own “original” work with a little embellishment and imagination.
I found someone’s butterfly painting on a stretched canvas. The colors are vibrant and the composition is okay, but I knew with a little work, it would be the perfect gift for a teenage girl.
Although any craft glue will work, a glue pen allows you to control the amount and placement. I enhanced the butterfly wings with black tinsel glitter around the bottom edge and a blue/green glitter on the wings.
Since this painting had a lot of negative space (the background), there was plenty of room for a quote. I didn’t want to make a mistake, so I laid out each word for the best placement. I used chalk to write the words first, then a black permanent marker. I let some of the chalk show for added depth.
A piece of old jewelry adds dimension at the head.
Next time you shop, look for your own “original” painting! Let your imagination fly.
