Dished Up

dished up1I love it when a project crosses over from craft to art. Especially when it involves repurposing a found object, like these bowls for example.

They started out as wooden salad bowls, part of a set many of us received for wedding gifts. After years of abuse from the dishwasher, they end up at Goodwill for $.99.

1. Clean them up and sand off any remaining finish. Then paint the outside in a color that matches your décor. I covered the inside with pages torn from magazines (I like the rough edges of torn paper) and glued the pieces with Mod Podge®.

Or look for clip art or old photos of items that have some significance or meaning. I’m partial to anything French!

2. Add words or phrases to the inside and even the outside. On my Paris bowl, I added “Let them eat cake” with letters and words cut-out from ads.

3. Seal with a couple of coats of clear finish. They’re perfect for almost anything except water! And make fun gifts.
