Oh Christmas Tree

paper treesI love unusual Christmas decorations, especially the hand-made kind. Every year, I try to come up with new color combinations and make something unique.

2012 is been the year of bling and glitter in fashion and home décor. It’s the perfect embellishment for Christmas, too. I want to give you an easy DIY project. These paper trees are so fast and simple, you’ll make a forest!

describe the image1. Start with card stock weight paper. Measure 8 ½” on the long side of the page and draw a curved line from your mark to the corner. Roll the paper into a cone and staple to hold in place.

2. Tear out pages from used paperback books found at Goodwill. You can use a scissors, but I like the look of torn paper. Tear strips, but not all the way through. Glue the strips to the cone with a hot glue gun starting at the bottom. Continue all the way to the top.

Goodwill is also a good source for glass candlesticks in various sizes.

Look for different heights to make your display more interesting.

3. In a well-ventilated area, spray each tree with spray adhesive and sprinkle with glitter. You can go with traditional green, but try turquoise or pink for a contemporary Christmas display. Add an old piece of jewelry for the tree top.

4. To make your winter scene a focal point, display it on a tray. I like mirrored dresser trays ($1.99). The mirror reflects Christmas lights and the sides of the tray keep everything in place. Add fake snow and a couple of coordinating ornaments and you have a new holiday coffee table arrangement.
