Pumpkin Patch

pumpkin patchWhen you make your own holiday decorations, you not only save money, but you get to use them over and over and have the satisfaction of saying “I did it myself”. If you’re able to re-purpose something, even better.

I’ll have lots of Halloween ideas for you during the next two months. This week I made mini pumpkins from an old sweater. If you start now, you’ll have an entire pumpkin patch by October 31.

I purchased an orange cashmere sweater from Goodwill for $2.99.

pumpkin patchMake circle patterns out of paper in various sizes. I used the entire sweater and ended up with about 25 pumpkins.

pumpkin patchWith matching thread, sew a running stitch along the edge of the circle. Stuff with fiber fill (I use the stuffing from an old pillow), pull the thread tight and knot.  I like my pumpkins soft and squishy, so I didn’t pack the stuffing too tight.

Cut little pieces of pipe cleaner, fold in half and stick into the top. As simple as that!

Arrange them on the mantle or coffee table with candles. You can add jack-o-lantern faces with felt if you want a more Halloween look later next month.
