I love easy DIY projects that look like a million bucks when you’re finished. Throughout the year, I collect small wooden boxes and metal sleighs knowing that when December rolls around I can transform them into original Christmas gifts.
This wood box looked great years ago when country décor was the hottest trend in interior design. Today it just looks dated. I decided to continue the turquoise, white, pink and purple theme I started weeks ago. A couple coats of white spray paint and it looks brand new! I glued a piece of floral Styrofoam to the bottom then filled it with faux greens and gold leaves. (Design Tip: Take apart wreaths you find at Goodwill and then store and reuse the stems and pieces.)
Finally, I added a few extra turquoise ornaments (leftover from the mannequin tree) with a hot glue gun. Coordinating ribbon wrapped around the base finishes it off.
A million bucks!
Don’t pass up slightly used Christmas decorations like these sleighs. Neither of these is even close to my style, but a little silver spray paint transforms each from ho-hum into elegant, pretty containers!
After the paint dries, glue a Styrofoam piece to the inside and repeat the process from the wood box. You can decorate them with pinecones, ribbons, little ornaments, and festive holiday floral picks.
The ideas are limitless. Choose colors to coordinate with your Christmas décor. Or, personalize one as a gift for a friend! You can order similar arrangements from a flower shop and pay lots of money. These cost me only a few dollars and I can say I made it myself!
