Personal Style at New York Fashion Week

We all know that models look good when they’re posing in designer clothes for the camera, but what about those folks who just view the world as their runway?  Whenever I’m in New York for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) as I am now, I love to take pictures of the people attending the shows as well as those hanging around Lincoln Center, where a vast majority of the shows are held.

Vest in Show

As we now look toward fall, it’s time to put some key items in place for our cool weather wardrobes. Transitional garments, which can bridge all the seasons and can be added a layer at a time, are the ones that I look to first. Such is the case with the simple vest.

Summertime Blues

Like the song says, “there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues.” The color blue has always been a staple on the fashion and design scene, but have you noticed that the hues change with the seasons? We go through cycles of color tonality, just like we go through cycles of skirt lengths. Right now, the prevalent hue of blue on runways and department store sales floors is a combination of robin’s egg, turquoise, teal and Tiffany-blue (like the famous NYC store’s boxes). This plays into the bright days of summer, when the blue of the sky, sea, and nature in general take a leading role in style and fashion. These blues have a hint of green in them, and much less depth than their fall and winter counterparts. They just seem to be made for the warm weather yet ahead of us.

Fashion Fireworks for the Fourth

In a few weeks our nation will celebrate its 236th birthday! As we all know, nothing says American like the good old red, white, and blue. This color combination has become a symbol of our patriotism and freedom, as well as our values and ideals. It’s also a classic color trifecta that works for Fourth of July celebrations, picnics, parades and just about any other summer activity. Adding just a few key elements to your wardrobe is a great way to salute the USA and your great fashion sense!

Foolproof Fashion Recipes!

All of us have a favorite recipe don’t we? Even if you don’t cook more than once a year, there is still that special dish, no matter how easy to prepare, that we can always count on to impress. Well, come to think of it, fashion and style have similar recipes that always make you look great and feel like a million bucks. They’re also very good examples of what to think about before you head out to shop for spring and summer this year. Let’s focus on a few basic looks that you can start with and just like any culinary concoction, you can add your own couture seasonings to make it your own.
