Last year around the holidays a friend of mine hosted a party which required one thing of all the guests invited - wear something that glitters, glistens, shines, shimmers, or sparkles. So, as we’re in the last weeks of the season where people wear crazy Christmas sweaters and other attire, it seemed appropriate to find some items that represent over-the-top style from eras past. Just like the ghost of Christmas Past, embellished and bedazzled sweaters make appearances at Goodwill throughout the year, and they just seem to cry out for someone to take them home and appreciate their gaudy beauty. And that person would be me! I started collecting “trophy sweaters” from the 1970s, 80s and 90s a few years back because I couldn’t believe the designs (which went from mild-to-wild) and I wanted to create a documentation of sorts.

For some of us the holidays are a hectic and sometimes stressful time of year. There are so many parties, celebrations, get-togethers and evenings out and about! Dressing up to attend any and all of these events can be a little challenging on many levels. Carving out time in our busy schedules and trying to fit it all in can leave even the most hardy holiday partier wondering what to wear to which occasion! Keeping your wardrobe simple, chic and festive throughout the endless parade of soirees shouldn’t be that hard at all. If you stick to a few of my simple tricks, you’ll always look party perfect in no time.
Reflection is what it’s all about for the holiday season isn’t it? We think about the year that was and make plans for the one to come. But, that’s not the only kind of reflection we should talk about … what about all the glittering fashions that are so prevalent this time of year? Sparkle, glow, and shine was on display at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall and Winter Collections for all to see! While not all of us can wear these styles, they can definitely serve as an inspiration for ways to incorporate that reflective quality we’re ALL seeking at this time of year. I actually attended a party recently that asked guests (men and women) to wear something shiny to reflect the joy of the season! I found a knit sweater at Goodwill that was easly lightly altered to fit me. Here I’m pictured with my friend Andrea, who opted for an embellished tank. Others wore metallic bow ties, sequined dresses, metallic knits and much more. It was a great time and the atmosphere was all aglow with the twinkling lights of the clothing, as well as the sparkle of friendship. Now is the time to take a gander at some of the looks that shone brightly on the runways of New York City!
