Cool and Colorful!

Fashion ideas come from many different places, don’t they? A magazine, something we see on television or online, and for me they often come from the numerous fashion shows I’ve attended over the years. One of my favorite designers is Custo Barcelona, whose point of view in fashion is all about color as well as happy feel-good energy! This week I want to share with you some photographs I snapped for his Spring/Summer 2012 collection. One of the reasons I like to show collections from past years is to illustrate the idea that fashion doesn’t change overnight—instead it can change in slow increments over a period of time. When you take a gander at the slideshow below you’ll notice many trends are still viable, and many more that could be what’s happening right now!

Late Summer Fashion Spotlight

Each season when I attend New York Fashion Week, I’m inspired with so many ideas by a multitude of designers that, at times, it’s hard to keep it all in perspective. So, when someone asks me which show, or should I say, which designer was my favorite, it’s a hard question to answer. I usually have to go back and review all the thousands of photographs I’ve taken throughout the week to come up with an informed response. As I looked through the shots I took at designer Luis Antonio’s runway show, I realized that every single look he did, and every print the chose, was absolutely perfect! For more about this Puerto Rico born designer, check out his brief biography here. Not too over the top, not too derivative, but overall, just right.  Accessible, yet modern and traditional without being boring is a good summation of his take on fashion today. The big story this season with this designer was his mastery of using print fabrics and combining them to make beautiful garments. I’m going to highlight a few of his looks below, but please click through the slideshow to take in all of his glorious work. I think you’ll agree that this was truly a memorable collection.

Real Mom, Real Style!

I love doing interviews with actual Goodwill shoppers to illustrate just how much value you can get for you, or your family, simply by strategically shopping at our stores. In this blog, I’m picking the brain of my friend of 25 years, Stefani Miller. I knew Stefani before she had a family, and I’ve watched her ease into the life of a busy mom and business entrepreneur. She is the poster child for back-to-school shopping for her kids! As a matter of fact, I was recently at Goodwill researching ideas for an upcoming blog post, and low-and-behold there was Stefani with her 10-year-old daughter and her niece, shopping for kids clothes! I decided then and there to get her take on why Goodwill has become an important and fun part of her shopping experience as a mom and homemaker.

White Hot Summer Fashion

Even though white is literally an absence of color, there is no absence of style when it comes to summer fashions that feature this bright and breezy tone. From the runways of New York Fashion Week, I have chosen some of the best looks to illustrate my point this week. Wearing white can be tricky at times, but with some modification, there are some sure-fire looks that can work for anyone!
