Winter 2016-2017 Clothing Trends

We haven’t decided if winter is coming in like a lion or a lamb yet, but either way, we’ll be rocking some fun and functional winter items this season! Winter makes us crave fun textures and colors, but let’s be honest; we all want to be cozy and warm too. These trends provide all of the above. Get out there and enjoy all that winter offers in platform boots, velvet, mid-hems and puffer jackets!

Platform BootsPlatform Boots

Why they made the list:

Functional and fashionable! We love the elevated style that these ‘90s inspired boots are providing to the snowy winter scene. You’ll see them in a variety of tones and fabrics this season; something for everyone! Goodwill has so many great winter boots to choose from. Be sure to check the shelves for a platform pair!

Pull them off:

Winter can be harsh on shoes! Patent leather is always a smart choice, as it’s easier to clean. We also love platform boots in suede – just remember to protect yours before hitting the salty roads. Pair your boots with leggings and a sweater dress for an oh-so-chic look! And remember, these can transition you into spring, by donning them with lightweight dresses once the temps start to rise.

VelvetVelvet

Why it made the list:

This luxurious fabric just screams holidays! Velvet adds a rich and chic look to any item it’s added to. Designers have mixed in unique touches of prints and embroidery work to their 2016 velvet pieces, and we can’t get enough of it. Find a velvet piece at Goodwill without the embroidery? If your sewing skills are up to par, you can add your own one-of-a-kind details on the shoulders or jackets. Or, iron-on embroidered work is always a great option!

Pull it off:

Don’t miss out on your chance this season to add an embroidered velvet blazer to your closet! This gives an unexpected casual look to the outfit, but remains oh-so-sophisticated. Pair your blazer with dark wash ankle jeans (and platform boots)! Other details we love to see combined with velvet, are rhinestone shoulders, lace cuffs around the wrist, and bold embroidered patches across the back.

Mid HemsMid-hems

Why they made the list:

Not too short, and not too long. Mid-hems are showing up a in a variety of styles this season. From skirts to dress pants, we love the elongated, and waist-slimming, shape this trend gives!

Pull them off:

Don’t fear wearing a skirt in winter! The long length keeps your legs a little more covered, and even better, mid-hem skirts look classic and chic when paired with cozy opaque tights. Since your hem will flair out, keep your top a little more snug. This will flatter your shape the best, and really highlights the mid-hem, too.

Puffer jacketPuffer Jackets

Why they made the list:

This classic winter piece is really coming back this year. We love the functional warmth puffer jackets provide, but the quilted and diamond stitching detail we’re seeing this season really takes these jackets up a style notch! Goodwill always has a variety of winter jackets to choose from – don’t forget to check our shelves for a puffy one!

Pull them off:

The “level” of puffiness is really up to each individual wearer, but this season’s trend is really about the subtle or light puffy look. It highlights the actual quilted pattern that much more. Jackets are the perfect way to go a little out of your usual clothing comfort zone. Look for a puffer jacket in a jeweled tone, if you’re used to the standard gray and black look. It adds just the right touch of color to your outdoor look!
