Did you know that Goodwill is one of the greenest organizations on the planet? Goodwill was green before it became the trend that it is today, and we are proud of our commitment to preserving the environment. Take a look below at just a few of the reasons why we're proud to call ourselves "green!"

How is Goodwill Green?Goodwill is Green

  • In 2012, Goodwill kept 2.5 billion pounds of clothing and other items out of landfills, through donations like yours!
  • We use preventative maintenance designed to maximize the efficient operation of our equipment and facilities, and when building new facilities, separate construction waste and use regional and low-emitting materials to minimize our carbon footprint.
  • We use green refrigerants in our air conditioners and are upgrading lighting in our locations to more energy-efficient fixtures.
  • We have installed motion sensors to cut down energy use and we have installed low flush toilets and use green landscaping practices. All of these steps make a big impact on the communities that we serve.
  • In 2013, Goodwill DataShield, our document destruction service, recycled nearly 3 million pounds of paper.
  • Goodwill Manufacturing works to create a positive environmental impact, prevent pollution and meet applicable legal and organizational requirements. We work closely with your environmental and safety groups as needed, including site audits of Goodwill operations. In 2013, Goodwill Manufacturing recycled 10.9 million pounds of materials.
  • In 2013, our Work Services area recycled 179,300 pounds of materials.
  • Electronics Recycling: Goodwill recycles CPUs, hard drives, towers, printers, keyboards, mice, monitors, cell phones and televisions keeping them out of landfills. And Goodwill Retail Services also won the Dell “Best in Reconnect – 2011” Award for our computer recycling efforts. These items can be dropped off at any Goodwill Store & Donation Center.
