Summer Home Trends

We love summer home décor! Its vibrancy is so uplifting; exactly what your home craves after a rainy spring. This season’s home décor trends are fresh and bright. One of our favorite things about these essentials is that you can take the trends as far as you want, from subtle to obvious. The heat has turned up outside, now turn it up inside with ombre furniture, ikat prints, gloss, beach décor and breezy curtains!

ombre furnitureOmbre Furniture:

We can’t get enough of the ombre craze! It’s everywhere, from hair color to furniture. Ombre is best described as a subtle transition in hue, from light to dark. When it comes to adding ombre to your furniture, it’s so easy that we keep asking ourselves, “why didn’t we think of this sooner?” You won’t find too many ombre furniture pieces right on the sales floor, so pull out your inner do-it-yourselfer and create your own! A small desk or end table in ombre will really add a fun spunk of color to your space. For a more subtle ombre look, simply transition to thicker coats of paint as you work your way down. If you want your piece to stand out more, purchase 3-4 small sample size paint jars, all with the same color but in varying shades.

Ikat PrintIkat Prints:

We love the look of ikat! It’s a little bit tribal, mixed with a little tie-dye to make one eye-catching look! To utilize the trend this summer, look for ikat prints that incorporate bright colors. If you want to go all out with ikat, look for a bedspread with the print. For a more restrained look, add colorful ikat pillows to your bed or couch. If you’re feeling crafty, frame a small piece of ikat fabric. This is a really unique way to add the print to your walls!  Goodwill has a variety of frames that would be perfect for this.

GlossGloss:

There’s something crisp and clean about glossy décor! Gloss as a trend can be translated to anything shiny or with the appearance of lacquer. In understated uses, the glossy look could be used throughout your room in shiny accessories, such as picture frames, vases or table tops. Lacquered floors are also a really popular way to pull off the gloss trend, but will involve a little more elbow grease! Feeling crafty? Create your own glossy accessories, by adding gloss paint to a vase from Goodwill. Gloss looks great when covering any color, so pick your favorite hue and get your shine on!

Beachy DecorBeach Décor:

One of the first things that come to mind when we think of summer, is summer vacation! And, when we think of summer vacation, we can’t help but let our minds wander to the thought of lying on the beach. We must not be the only ones, because beach décor is taking over the household this season. If you’re not usually a fan of “theme” rooms, you can still pull off the seaside look by incorporating pale blues and turquoise colors into your space. We also love the look of white coral accessories throughout a bedroom; it’s subtle, yet still gives that laid back beach feel. If you want to go all out, look for fabrics with seashells or waves. This will work great as a throw blanket, or on accent pillows. Be sure to check your local Goodwill for accessories and fabrics that will help you pull of this trend!

Breezy CurtainsBreezy Curtains:

You know the song, “Let the Sunshine In?” Well, this trend helps you do just that! Breezy curtains are the perfect way to instantly brighten your home, but with a gentle softness that won’t have you wearing your sunglasses indoors. This season, we’re seeing a lot of wispy curtains in soft colors; just what your home needs to add a hint of summertime color. If you’re not used to having your curtains closed during the summer, remember that they help hold the cool air in and keep your energy costs down; bonus! Not to mention they look stunning with the morning sun cascading through them. If you’re having a hard time finding the right thickness of curtain, don’t forget to check your local Goodwill for fabrics that could be turned into curtains, or of course, your local fabric store will work too.
