It's Thanksgiving! ... At Goodwill, we're extremely grateful to our customers for giving us the opportunity to carry out our mission of providing training, employment and supportive services for people with disabilities or disadvantages who seek greater independence. This is important work, and without YOU it simply wouldn't be possible for us to help individuals like Robert, a donation attendant and utility worker at the Goodwill Store & Donation Center in Downers Grove. Robert's story epitomizes the courage and determination needed to overcome obstacles and barriers. As a child, Robert faced abuse and poverty and never learned how to read or write. After decades of hiding his disability, Robert began working for Goodwill and gained the friendship, support and encouragement of Goodwill Store Manager, Lauren Maddox and Goodwill Way Guide, Lauren James. Their bond proved to be the driving force behind Robert achieving his goal of learning how to read.
This triumphant story was made possible by YOU, so THANK YOU for supporting Goodwill, and for helping change the lives of people like Robert each and every day.

Thanksgiving, my favorite meal of the year. Seriously, I could eat turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy every week–if someone would make if for me! Since that’s not going to happen, I have to be content with the fourth Thursday in November. In the meantime, I spend my time coming up with a new table setting ideas. |

Thanksgiving Day Kid CraftThanksgiving week is almost here. That means, food, family and kids home from school. With everything you have to do to get ready for the biggest dinner of the year, keeping the children occupied can be a challenge. I came up with a turkey pinecone craft that will keep the kids busy all week, or at least Thursday morning. |
The Kiddie Thanksgiving TableIf your family is large, chances are you have a kiddie table for Thanksgiving dinner. If that’s the case, keep the kids occupied with crayons and markers (they can decorate their own tablecloth) and have them make turkey napkin rings. They’re so cute, you might want them at the grown-up table, too. |
Thanksgiving Dinner Table SettingMy favorite meal of the year is almost ready to eat. I don’t know which part I like best. It’s a tie between mashed potatoes with home-made gravy and left-over turkey sandwiches on fresh baked rolls. But before we sit down to eat; we must set a proper table. When setting a holiday table, I learned where to place the knife and fork when I was a kid. I hope parents are still teaching their children the correct way! |
Words of Thanks
