Often the easiest way to redecorate is to swap out one for accessory for another. The changing seasons is the one of the best times to spruce up your home. Summer living is much more casual during than the rest of the year. We spend time outdoors and on vacation. But come fall when the temperatures drop, we move indoors. I hate to see the end of warm weather, but I do like to snuggle up on the sofa before a roaring fire and watch football on TV.

It just took a few accessories to turn my summer porch into a comfortable autumn living room. Each of these ideas and tips will work inside too.

I replaced the vintage quilt on the back of the sofa with a brown plaid throw. A wool blanket is the ultimate accessory in fall décor. Pillows are another easy change. No need to buy new ones, just change the covers. I made cases from cable knit sweaters I purchased at Goodwill.

Another way to warm up a room is to cover-up tables. Forget typical tablecloths, a pretty shawl or pashmina in a fall color works just as well. Since I happened to have an orange pillow, I looked for a scarf in a coordinating shade. Display accessories that have a homey, old-world feel. You can’t miss with candles and lanterns! Same with the coffee table; you can cover it completely (an old quilt would look great) or add a table runner. I love the texture of the twigs with a wood tray. Another cool-weather decorating trick is to replace or add a different area rug.

Don’t forget to rearrange items on your shelf, mantle or wall. Pack away the sea shells and pull out wood and ceramic collectibles. If you need to start a new collection, head to Goodwill!
