DIY Flannel Wreath

By Pam Pierson, Multimedia Manager, Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin & Metropolitan Chicago

As anyone who has recently moved knows there is a lot of stress and craziness involved with the whole process. As a way to de-stress, relax and make our new house feel like home I thought it would be fun to create a new fall decoration to add to our collection. Since I don’t have a lot of free time, I wanted my DIY project to be simple yet unique. So I decided to create a fall wreath, with a bit of a twist.

What you’ll need:

  • 14 inch Styrofoam wreath (can purchase from any craft store)
  • Fall themed picks (at Goodwill or any craft store)
  • Hot glue gun & glue
  • Jeans
  • Flannel shirt
  • Stick pins
  • Scissors
  • Ruler

Instructions:

Cut off the arms of the flannel shirt. Then, cut three to four, 1 in.-2 in. wide strips of material from the flannel shirt.

Cut off the pant legs of the jeans. Then, cut three to four, 1 in.-2 in. wide strips of material from the jeans.
Place the fall picks on the wreath (anywhere you would like!). Secure with glue if needed.

Secure the end of the first flannel strip with a stick pin (and glue for a more secure hold) and wrap around the wreath.

Pick up where the first flannel strip ended. Secure the end of the first jean strip with a stick pin (and glue for a more secure hold) and continue to wrap around the wreath.

Alternate the flannel and the jean strips until the entire wreath is covered.

DIY Flannel Wreath
Cut the button strip from the flannel shirt. Use this as your loop to hang your wreath. Cut loop the desired length. Glue the ends together and pin to the inside of the wreath. Let glue dry.

Hang wreath on door.
