6 Tips to Stay Safe While Shopping

The COVID-19 pandemic affected many aspects of our lives, including how we shop.

While many opted for home delivery over in-store experiences, the situation has evolved, opening the door for – well, open doors. Now, the decision lies less on whether or not you can shop in a store and more on how you can shop safely during an active pandemic.

What You Can Do to Protect Yourself:

As you already been practicing, wear a face covering while in busy public areas. This is meant to protect others around you more than yourself; it’s possible that a carrier of coronavirus can be asymptomatic, meaning they don’t show symptoms but are still able to spread the disease.

In addition to face masks, some ways to further protect yourself include:

  • Shopping at less busy times of the day/week. This will make it easier to stay at least six feet away from other shoppers and store employees.
  • Bringing disinfectant wipes to wipe down your cart or basket prior to use.
  • Packing a small container of hand sanitizer and using it frequently – at least before and after shopping.
  • Stocking up on necessities to avoid multiple trips to the store each week.
  • Using a debit or credit card to avoid handing off and receiving cash or change.
  • Washing your hands, counters and any surfaces that touch the items you bring home. Additionally, using a disinfectant to wipe down any non-porous containers before putting them away.
