I love this time of year when farmer’s markets are plentiful and veggies are abundant! Saturday shopping for fresh food at an outdoor market is the best way to buy groceries. It’s so French! You also need your own bag (it’s green, efficient and chic). No reason to buy an expensive one when you can make your own from discarded t-shirts.
You know Goodwill is loaded with t-shirts in every color, style and size. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is one of our favorite movies, so I couldn’t resist this shirt with the Griswold car.
Step 1:
Cut off the sleeves
Step 2:
Use a large bowl to trace a circle at the neckline.
Cut out the top on your traced line. I wanted it a little wider, so I cut out more fabric, giving me a narrow shoulder.
Step 3:
Turn the shirt inside out. I cut off about 8 inches from the bottom. Knit fabric stretches when full and I didn’t want a gigantic bag. Then round the corners and sew across the bottom. It was still a little too “square,” so I rounded the bottom even more.
Step 4:
Tie a left-over piece of fabric at the shoulders for a little fringe and personality.
It’s perfect for the market. Knits are practically indestructible, and it’s washable! Or, make book bags for the students in the family.
