As a mother, I can’t think of a better gift than eating with my family. It doesn’t matter what we’re eating, just having everyone gathered around a table for a few hours of conversation is priceless. Of course, sitting at a great table always makes the event more enjoyable.
This year I designed a country place setting for a casual dinner or lunch.
My inspiration was a pair of purple leopard print jeans. First I cut the pockets off to make napkin holders then added long pieces to plastic placemats I found for only $.49.
Since the place mats were gold, I went with a “royal” color scheme. I folded napkins so two points showed and tucked them into the pocket and set it on a white plate.
In keeping with the jeans theme, I looked for belts at Goodwill with interesting; country-style buckles to make place card holders. Then I cut off the excess belt and added a slip of paper under the buckle and put it next to the napkin on the plate.
I laid more pieces of jean fabric down the center of the table. I stitched down the raw edge on my sewing machine, but you can always use a fusible hem tape (no sewing required, you only need an iron).
The centerpiece is a collection of glass candlesticks in a variety of sizes. Add a single bloom and they become little bud vases.
Treat your Mom to dinner and conversation. I guarantee she’ll love it!
