DIY Message Board

Posted by Jamie Klinger-Krebs on Apr 24, 2014 9:40:00 AM

message boardI’ve been working on staging dorm rooms this month. I like to do a couple of fast and easy DIY projects than anyone can do. This magnetic message board is not only perfect for the college student, but would be a great Mother’s Day gift, too. After all, everyone needs to stay organized and on top of things.

I purchased a rimmed cookie sheet for $1.99 at Goodwill and a pair of lip magnets ($.49 each). Actually the lip clips were my inspiration for this project. They were so cute, I had to do something with them.

message boardCut a piece of fabric to fit the inside of the cookie sheet. I bought a bed sheet to make pillows for the dorm room and used a left-over remnant for the message board.

message boardTo give the fabric some stability, I sprayed it with fabric stiffener/starch. Once it’s dry, outline the edge (wrong side) with glue and fit it into place. Cover up the raw edges with some trim; I happened to have rick-rack in a coordinating color.

Note: I didn’t have any luck decopaging the fabric directly onto the cookie sheet. Once it was dry, the fabric turned “rusty”!
