This month I’ve shared with you some country decorating ideas (the rustic tree, stockings from sweaters and Swedish mantle). So, instead of a formal table, I decided on a casual, informal setting to continue the theme through to Christmas dinner.
I started with an old, faded red and white quilt for a table cloth. The placemats are squares of red felt and the “charger” is a white wicker wreath I bought for 99 cents.
I collected assorted Christmas themed mugs (49 cents each) to make party favors and vintage hankies in place of traditional napkins.
Since this table is casual, mix and match the dishes. Each place setting should be unique.
Fold the hankie so the design shows and tuck between the plate and wreath.
Fill the mug with whimsical Christmas ornaments. First I filled it with pillow batting, and then added a little tree, angel and mini packages. Everyone takes one home.
To get the “remember when” conversation going at the dinner table, tuck old family photos in the tines of the forks.
Instead of the usual place cards, personalize Santa hats and hang on the back of each chair. I cut letters from felt and glued them to the brim. You could use decals from the craft store.
All of us at Goodwill wish you a very Merry Christmas!
