Countdown to Christmas

calendar 036The anticipation of Christmas morning is just as exciting as the day itself for children. That’s why Advent calendars are so popular; kids get a little treat every day.

calendar 024Instead of trinkets or candy, why not give the gift of time and activities? I made something similar when my boys were young. They couldn’t wait to see what was planned for the day.

I started with a cd or dvd holder I found for 99₵. I spray painted it red to match any holiday décor.

I have a stash of old Christmas cards. (Never toss them out, they make inexpensive name tags for presents!). For this project, I cut pieces from each card 2 ½” by 3 ½” and folded it lengthwise. This size fits the stand I bought; you might have to adjust your card size to fit your stand.

Place each card on one of the rungs, working from the bottom up, so December 25 is at the top. I added some Christmas greens to make the stand more festive. Trust me; your kids will love it!
