The biggest meal of the year is only a week away! As you pull out Grandma’s recipe for candied yams and thaw out the turkey, don’t forget to set a memorable table.
I scour Goodwill stores all year for special holiday dishes. It took a few trips, but I was able to find 12 matching milk glass compotes.
I found chargers ($.99 - $1.99) to go with the set of gold rimmed vintage plates I already owned. Then added clear salad plates ($.99 each) and the compotes for soup.
Because thanksgiving is a family holiday, one way to personalize the table is with old family photos. This year, instead of the actual picture, I used negatives (remember those?). Napkin rings are simply a negative rolled and taped. I put another piece in a little clear frame and added a name for the place card.
The centerpiece is a collection of votive candles (wrapped with negatives) and an exposed roll of film wound around vintage cameras. For the runner, I cut a length of black felt to look like a negative.
This setting is so welcoming; the family will spend hours after the meal is over reminiscing about the good old days.
Happy Thanksgiving!
