Come and Sit For a Spell

Posted by Jamie Klinger-Krebs on Oct 17, 2013 3:49:00 PM
spell 047Halloween is getting close and it’s time to start bringing out the spooky and creepy decorations. Since we like to re-use our stuff here at Goodwill, I love it when I can re-purpose something I purchased and used earlier in the year. Remember the chairs I used in the garden this summer

It was out in the yard for months, so the finish is even more worn and rustic. Perfect for a Halloween Witch display.spell 057

I choose a spooky font called Chiller to make a sign the says

Come Sir for a Spell. I printed it on orange paper and burnt the edges with a lighter. (A safer solution is to use scissors with a decorative edge.)

For real proof that a witch actually lives here; I added a stack of potion books. Hardcover books are only $1.79 at Goodwill. I tore off the covers and tied them with a string. But first I printed out the titles of my “new” books.

Love Spells

I mixed a teaspoon of instant coffee with just a touch of water. Then dripped and rubbed the thick coffee on the paper to age it.

spell 055Finally I kept layering on items. A decorated witch’s hat, old lace-up shoes, a broom, lantern (never leave a candle unattended!!) and black tulle. Of course the finishing touch is lots of cobwebs.

All I need is some spooky music coming from the bushes and my party guests will enchanted!
