I love old mercury glass. But antique vases are really expensive and hard to find. Or if you prefer something a little more contemporary, try painting vases and jars in colors to match your interior décor.
To build a collection, look for vases in a variety of sizes and shapes. Basic interior design rule: Groupings of odd numbers always look best.
Drip inexpensive craft paint on the inside of the vase. Work on a section at a time. Remember less is more, keep adding until you get a pattern or design you like. Craft paint is flat, but looks glossy from the outside.
To get the horizontal stripes, pour a little paint in the middle and slowly turn the vase sideways. Set it in a bowl while it dries. Repeat.
For the mercury glass look, you need Looking Glass Spray paint and water in a squirt bottle.
Spray a little water inside the jar. Then, in a well-ventilated area, spray the Looking Glass paint. This process will take several coats and even a few days. After the first coat dries, continue to repeat the process until the inside is completely covered. The water keeps some of the paint from sticking, giving it an antique look.
