amazing goodwill tipsIf you’re like me, you take advantage of the cold winter weekends to get your house (and clutter) in order. Since I don’t have a lot of closet space, I’m always looking for ideas to organize my things in pretty and practical ways. If a decorative accessory can serve as storage, that’s even better.

One of my favorites is old wooden boxes, which fit in with any décor and hold almost anything. With donations taking place all the time, your nearest Goodwill store can be a great source for vintage boxes.

Silverware storage cabinets are a great solution for housing jewelry. They’re lined with tarnish resistant felt, so it’s safe to store your silver necklaces and other pieces too.

The fork and spoon dividers offer the added benefit of keeping bracelets, necklaces and watches separated.

You can also hook wire earrings onto the knife spacers. Here’s another tip: Add a magnetic strip to keep post earrings from losing their mates.

For serious jewelry collectors, a vintage wooden tool box has lots of drawers to use for storage.

Another item you can find at Goodwill is a wood tool tote. They’re perfect for keeping movies or CDs organized.

To keep remotes and coasters handy in the living room try wooden cutlery trays. Compact and decorative, these trays are a great option for any coffee table.

Of course, you could paint or refinish any of these items, but I like the patina of old wood. It’s part of the charm.
