Share The Love - Have A Seat

home exterior expertIt’s the little touches that make your wedding extra special, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend tons of money. DIY projects keep the costs down, allow you to be creative, and you’re recycling too when you shop for “parts” at Goodwill.

Create escort cards

After you’ve assigned numbers, letters or cities for each dinner table you’ll need to create escort cards (place cards) so your guests know where to sit.

The easiest and fastest way to make an escort card is to fold card stock in half to create a little tent. Then, hand write or print each person’s name on the card. I’ve attached little initial paper clips to identify the tables. Don’t forget you’ll have to assign letters to each table too. Finally, coordinate your escort cards with your table numbers.

You can also glue pages from a book onto card stock and write the names and table number for each guest. “Stamp” a heart in a coordinating color at the crease and then cut out the top so it stands up when folded in half.

I also love the idea of using places to identify tables, instead of numbers. Use tags, rubber stamps and clip art to create an elegant yet casual look.

Display escort cards

You can line your cards alphabetically on a table at the hall entrance, or you can get creative. I found a wood tray at Goodwill for $2.99, filled it with dried peas and nestled in the escort cards. Depending upon your theme, you can use coffee beans, candy or pebbles too.

Double duty escort cards

Small bags serve double duty as escort cards and take home treat bags. I used a larger alphabet stamp and ink that matched the bridal party. The playing card identified the table and the clip prevented spills. Cards are perfect for a destination wedding to Vegas.

Candy bars are the new trend at wedding receptions. The bride and groom set up jars of candy and guests can help themselves to sweet treats to eat or take home.

Mini frames are another great option. Goodwill is a wonderful source for them in different finishes. Keep in mind they don’t all have to match. They become party favors for guests to take home and remember your special day.

It’s easy to make your dinner and reception special and personal with just a few simple projects and items from Goodwill.
