Winter Nomads

Winter Nomads

With the “snowpocalypse” that hit hard across the country in the last week or so, I thought we could take a look at the Nicholas K  Fall and Winter Collection to see what we might make of their thoughts on fashion survival. The design duo states, “we looked to the street and to the utilitarian brilliance of uniforms to invent a new platform of luxurious, everyday sportswear with an urban edge.”  The harsh winter weather we’re experiencing made me think of films like “Mad Max,” or even “Lawrence of Arabia” with the vast landscapes covered in sand, or in our case snow! Known for their high quality and quirky details, I think you’ll find their looks interesting, to say the least. We can also take away some trends which show through their apocalyptic vision of street wear.

Trends to spot:

  • Burnt burgundy or merlot colors
  • Draped leggings/pants/tops
  • Menswear fabric used in unique ways (gray pinstripe)
  • Sumptuous draping on oversized capes
  • Batik-like hand done fabrics
  • Sculptural jewelry
  • Leather helmets, gloves, pants and other rustic details
  • Buckled closures
  • Fur used in different ways
  • Amber-tinted sunglasses in aviator style
  • Shearling coats
  • Flowing dresses
  • Winter white
  • Sheer fabrics mixed in with sturdier textiles

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be told what to wear. I want to form my own opinions about what I see and craft my own looks using those observations. One of the favorite things I love about shopping at Goodwill is the creative inspiration it can provide us with. Perusing the store for items that suggest high-fashion looks is not just in the realm of people like me. Instead, it allows EVERYONE to be their own designer, and you get to support our mission too!
