Winter Menswear Classics

Find me on:

Winter Menswear ClassicsJohn Bartlett is an American menswear designer who knows how to put a spin on classic masculine style. I attended a fashion presentation for his line, Consensus, a few seasons ago at Boston Store that really hit the mark when it came to easy-to-wear, fashion-forward men’s looks. You’ll see in my slideshow that it’s all about the mix. And, when you have the right ingredients, you can pull together similar looks by using his combinations as inspiration! In fact, Mr. Bartlett noticed the denim coat I had on as one of his own designs for upscale store Saks Fifth Avenue. I told him I actually bought it resale, which he thought that was great! Take a look at the images below and then head to Goodwill and be on the lookout for items that could fit the bill for you. Here’s some examples of things you should definitely have in your winter wardrobe that you could easily find at Goodwill.

  • Hoodies
  • Cardigan sweaters
  • Sweater vests
  • Ties
  • Hats
  • Slip-on shoes
  • Tennis shoes
  • Scarves
  • Gloves
  • Denim jeans
  • Khaki pants
  • Classic-patterned sweaters
  • Plaid shirts
  • Button down shirts

What you’ll notice here too is a richness to the tones of the clothing. Everything goes together without “matching.” This is where some men get stuck in a rut. Try adding a pop of red— like a belt, shoes, or red plaid shirt that can spark some interest in an otherwise everyday outfit. Notice the combination of textures in the knits, leathers, and denims. Noticing details like that are what really sets apart a sharp dresser from those who simply put on some clothes!  “Dapper” is the watchword for men this season, or any season for that matter, and our well-organized menswear section at Goodwill is a great place to start!
