One of the best things about fashion coverage is meeting the movers and shakers! Such as my friend Kim Cihlar who has reported on menswear and fashion in New York City for many years! This week she graciously shares some of her photographs, as well as her take on menswear in 2017!
SURF’S UP
The freshest surfer prints bordered camp shirt bottoms at David Naman, tropical Liberty of London-like florals enhanced shirts at Nick Graham, flamingos enlivened tropical baseball jackets at Ricardo Seco and mysteriously dark florals rooted at Malan Breton. Iconic floral prints blossomed into palm trees on sport jackets at David Hart, floral underwear at the Bench/Body x Cadet collab, Bermuda shorts at Krammer & Stoudt and camp shirts worn over cool mesh netting tees at CH. Bringing a softened hue to the island palette, Brett Johnson stood out for a dressy double-breasted suit in muted desert pink. Aho!
BAGS
No guy has enough pockets for all the tech-y stuff necessary now! So, backpacks were important, especially those meant to be carried by their top handle, like the blue camo version at Uri Minkoff.
ATHLEISURE
Sporty is the way of life, these days. Athleisure — worn from the gym to the streets —prevailed, because, you know, guys love their sweats and hoodies! And, the more casual the better. Maiden Noir’s pink distressed layered-look sweatshirt worn with a trim, tapered sweat pant was one of our fave looks.
CROP IT
David Naman cut off the tailored sport coat Maiden Noir and Krammer & Stoudt chopped and rolled wide linen or cotton trousers. Uri Minkoff cropped super slim trousers that zipped up the side of the calf.
Remember, fashion is food for thought, not a rule, so have fun and get styling!
