This week come with me while I shop for upcoming projects at my local Goodwill store! As a lifelong thrift shopper I want to share some professional advice, so here are my best tips for getting the most out of your Goodwill shopping experience!
Know what you are looking for.
For example, I was looking for some denim items to use for a future fashion photo shoot. I also wanted to pick up some pieces that would help me illustrate some springtime looks, as well as pick up some men’s ties for another DIY post later on.
Start with a plan.
What I mean by this is have a routine when you go into the store. I always start with coats and blazers, then I move on to dresses and accessories, and then I do a sweep of the rest of the store. Your plan might be different, but always have a plan! This will help you think through your purchases carefully, so you won’t end up with items you don’t need.
I fill my cart and then pull off to the side and go through what I’ve chosen one more time to carefully inspect items and make sure they can be put to good use!
What I ended up with.
In my cart when I pulled up to the checkout were: two interesting dresses, a new pair of fashion bib overalls, deck shoes, a printed spring top, a men’s hoodie, two men’s ties, six candles, one pet dish, one ceramic spoon rest, a sheer top for a project, two new men’s hats, and a short-sleeved designer blazer.
My total was $72.16. I earned two $5 Club Goodwill REwards to use toward future purchases–so the grand total was actually $62.16! But, the value of supporting our mission? Priceless!!
