There’s nothing quite like going to the beach for a relaxing day soaking up the sunshine while listening to the waves lapping the shore and feeling the warm and balmy breezes. A few seasons ago at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for Spring and Summer 2013, fashion designer Joy Cioci channeled all of the above to create the inspiration for her presentation. You’ll see the influences in her designs, as well as in the hairstyling and make up on the models featured. Take a look at the slideshow below and you will certainly see echoes of the 1920’s at Coney Island, and maybe even a modern day Little Mermaid. Some of her work is on the fantastical side, and some comes from a more practical place, but no matter what, you’ll be inspired to look into what you can do to bring the summer and the sea home to your own wardrobe. Here’s a few things to note from our slideshow:

- Cloche hats
- Pailettes (large fish scale type sequins)
- Texture in fabrication
- Sheer insets
- Billowing empire waist dresses
