A kimono is a loosely-used term for a robe with a square sleeve. In ancient times the Japanese immigrants from China adapted this traditional undergarment to be worn on its own with an Obi sash. From that moment on it became a fashion inspiration for centuries of designers and their devoted followers. I found an image from aliexpress.com, a fast fashion online retailer that reminded me of a look one of my coworkers had on one day. The outfit is compromised of a kimono, real, faux, or just a top with the kimono sleeve, a tank top, and a pair of Daisy Dukes (or distressed denim shorts). This look reminds me so much of something you’d see a cool chick wearing at Coachella, or maybe even one of our summer festivals right here in Southeastern Wisconsin or Northern Illinois. I scored some great things at my local Goodwill that really emulate this rock star-look that anyone can adapt.
- Mossimo rayon eyelet top in white - $3.99
- Satin Kimono robe in bright hues - $6.99
- XX1 top with kimono sleeves - $4.99
- Hello Kitty sunglasses - $1.99
- Faux tortoiseshell sunglasses - $2.99
- Mossimo brand distressed denim short-shorts - $4.99
As you can see from the photos, I really came up with a look that rocks! The cool thing about this is you could literally use a satin robe or almost any draped or loose-fitting top over the shorts and sleeveless top. This is absolutely why I love shopping at Goodwill. On any given day you can come shopping for the items that would work for the particular style you want to try. When you support Goodwill through your donation or purchases, you’re helping someone get job training and find employment — and, of course, we thank you for supporting our mission!
