Top Runway Trends for Summer 2014

Posted by Jamie Klinger-Krebs on Jul 8, 2014 4:16:00 PM

LaCosteSummer is finally here in all its glory - warm weather, lots of outdoor activities, and the latest and greatest from the world’s top designers! Last September while in New York City for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, I spotted quite a few trends that have made their way into the collective consciousness of the public at large. They’re all easily accessible, and for the most part, wearable by a vast majority of people. That, my dear readers, is how fashion transitions from the runways around the world and into the stores where we shop; and eventually into the closets and worn by fashionable folks. These pieces meet the criteria of style in oh so many ways …

First, we have the crop top and high-waist skirt combo. As opposed to a few years back when waistlines dipped precariously low, today’s maxi, midi and mini- skirts look a little classier when worn with a clean-lined crop top like the look shown here from Lacoste S/S 2014 Collection. Take note that her skirt hits just at the bottom of her rib cage and ends below the knee cap. This elongates the lower half of her body, and when combined with the cropped-tank top comes across as both sporty and elegant. The subtle colors of this ensemble also work to keep the look classy.

Our next look is from Tracy Reese S/S 2014, and features a floaty-tank top and cropped harem-type pant. Easy and breezy is the best description of this classic, yet comfortable style. The pattern mixing here is done artfully by taking cues from the blue, brown, and green of the prints, with a little black thrown in on the cuff of the pants. These would be great separates to have in your wardrobe and could be paired with other items you may already have.

Tracy ReeseThe skirt/pant length on our next picture, also from Miss Reese, illustrates the new “midi” length that so many celebrities have been seen wearing on the street and the red carpet. This length is so appropriate for many body types and also looks stylish with flats, like the sandals shown here. She’s sporting a silk bomber jacket, which is yet another in the sportswear trend that’s getting a lot of play. Layered over an animal print tank top, it’s the perfect summer jacket for when there’s a chill in the air.

This bright-fitted sheath dress is more than just a summertime staple, it’s a must have in a well- rounded summer wardrobe.  It can
be dressed up with high heels and accessories, or played for a sportier feeling like they did here on the runway in New York at Miss Reese’s presentation. The coral/orange is totally on trend and the shorter length lends itself to all the running around any busy young woman might have to do on a bright summer day. A zip front and some interesting detailing at the neckline make it feel special without going too over the top. Absolute style perfection in my book!
