Wedding Worthy Trends

wedding fashionThere is a serious business going on far beyond what was once the simple act of saying “I do!” With shows on television like “Say Yes to the Dress,” “Four Weddings,” “Bridezilla’s,” and many others, it seems that we ALL know a little something about the planning and stress that goes into action long before the actual march down the aisle. There are countless bridal magazines, bridal salons and specialty bridal websites along with trends that cover all facets of wedding hair and makeup. But, the wedding fashion trends are what I find to be the most interesting. With June being the most popular month for weddings (and it’s just around the corner) now seems like a good time to talk weddings! This week I want to share with you some of the latest and greatest for the DIY bride and groom, as well as those spending a small fortune just to get hitched. As I often say, good taste and good ideas are worth far more than money when it comes to having the wedding and party of your dreams!

wedding fashionwedding fashionOne of the fastest growing trends for the blushing bride is blush! Blush pink that is. Many designers including Vera Wang have shown pastel gowns for the bride that dares to be unlike anyone else. Yet another fashionable look is the short (otherwise known as cocktail length) bridal gown. Finding a vintage gown with lace or tulle and having it shortened to make it more modern would be a great idea and easy on the bridal budget too. You could even have it professionally dyed to your perfect pastel pink!

wedding fashionGoodwill offers a large assortment of evening and formal attire throughout the year that could work for the mother of the bride on a budget, or the bride that wants a different style for each bridesmaid, but all done in the same tone. Popular right now is the idea of your bridesmaids all wearing a black dress! The bride will surely stand out, and if your bridesmaids don’t want to wear their dress again, they can just donate it back to our stores to honor the very modern theme of reduce, reuse, recycle.

wedding fashionGentlemen also have some new developments on the wedding horizon. Casual weddings, such as an outdoors ceremony, could allow the groomsmen to wear slacks of the same tone, such as tan or grey, a button down shirt, matching black neckties and suspenders or vests in the same color range for that “Great Gatsby” feeling. Not fussy, but definitely on the trendy side. The groom and his groomsmen that rent their tuxedo may want to ditch the matching accessories that usually come with it, such as the matching cummerbund and wedding fashionpre-tied bow tie, and go instead for an ascot, or a contrasting print bow tie to shake things up a little. I have seen many gentlemen searching out a one-of-a-kind bow tie that may have been recycled from antique or vintage ties. They may even want to have one made from their fathers or grandfathers ties. The most important trend, however, for the guys is forgoing the cummerbund completely. Goodwill is a great source for “new-to-you” men’s accessories, and he’ll sweep you off your feet with the amount of money he saved! (Maybe put the cash towards that trip to Bermuda for the honeymoon?)

wedding fashionFancy one of-a-kind fascinator-style short veils are all the rage for the chic bride.  Eschewing the traditional assortment at the bridal salon, today’s modern bride wants a handmade keepsake veil she can wedding fashioncherish until death they do part. Finding bits and pieces at Goodwill such as antique rhinestone pins and other jewelry or even silk flowers are fun to hunt for, and can easily be attached to a cage veil to create your own statement. Whether you design your own or have someone fabricate your vision for you, a uniquely personal veil is the perfect way to make your momentous occasion an even more special and memorable experience.

As we all know, mixing it up is always in style, so finding items at Goodwill that are perfect for you and the big day you’re planning can save you some serious cabbage, and your purchases deliver a big gift to those in need of our job training programs, of course! Congratulations on thinking outside the box, and for making your wedding dreams come true!
