Red Hot Fashion!

bjorn red dressRed, rouge, crimson, scarlet, ruby, burgundy, cherry, and strawberry are all commonly linked shades of this world-class color. Red is universally associated with many emotions like danger, passion, anger and beauty. It is also a symbol of happiness in China and many other cultures around the world. In America we relate this tone to Christmas and of course Valentine’s Day. But, no matter what it reminds you of, or what shade it is, red is always red-hot when it comes to fashion. When people talk about rolling out the red carpet they’re actually calling attention to the fact that it is traditionally used to show respect and dignity to heads of state when they attend ceremonial or formal occasions. Nowadays however, most of us think of celebrities and VIPs posing for pictures in their fancy designer clothing as they attend movie premieres, award shows, or promotional events.

red lupita nyong oRed is a universally flattering shade. There I’ve said it. Recently actress Lupita Nyong’o was the epitome of glamour as she walked the red carpet in a fresh off the runway bright red Ralph Lauren gown. I know that not everyone is a movie star, and that some folks think they can’t wear red, but I beg to differ. It’s all about how you use this classic, and in February especially, romantic coloration.

Red slacks or jeans are the first piece you should look for. They give everything you pair them with an air of sophistication and polish. While not dressy, they look sporty and fashion forward. Since red is a classic color, look for a shade that speaks to you personally, from cool red to orange red, there is one that is just right for you I’m sure. For our Amazing Living segment, I paired a patterned tailored jacket with a pair of red jeans on our model. This is the casual way to do red while still looking "special."

Finding the perfect red dress is a challenge, but one that will be well worth the effort. The color works in summer or winter, depending on the fabric it’s made from of course. Cotton or a knit could work all year round for you! Keep accessories to a minimum like our red carpet friends do, and you’ll definitely make a great impression no matter where you go.

I personally have a red cashmere scarf that I pull out when I want some contrast with my neutral outerwear coats. You might look for a lightweight red scarf that you could use to accent any outfit that needs some punch. A red handbag bjorn red shoeswill definitely stand out with even the simplest jeans and t-shirt outfit and make it look like fashion. The same could be said of some unique footwear in a shade of rouge. A classic red pump for the ladies is always a nice surprise when worn with an otherwise work-a-day look. For men, a bright red trainer or high top could make that casual Saturday jeans-and-sweater combo seem like effortless style.

At Goodwill, red also stands for the kind hearts of all of our customers whose purchases make an indelible difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
