Fashion Fix Up!

fashion fix upLynn Highum is by her own admission a regular, once-a-week Goodwill shopper. Her employer, Premier Body & Paint in Waukesha, is also a supporter of the yearly Goodwill Retro Rendezvous fundraiser held in Milwaukee. As office manager for the company, Lynn says, “the days fly by because there is always something to do!” While attending the Retro Rendezvous event in October with her spouse and other folks from her workplace, Lynn noticed that yours truly was offering a personal shopping experience as well as a $100 Goodwill gift card as one of the silent auction prizes. She immediately informed her husband that it was just what she needed. With her position in the busy company Lynn needs to look professional, yet not too corporate and buttoned down. fashion fix upSince she’s always stated that she has struggles with her lack of fashion sense, her spouse agreed and urged her to place a bid. Later on in the evening, she found out she had won!  Lynn got in contact with me via email and expressed her excitement for the opportunity to get some new ideas on personal style out of the experience. She was hopeful that I could provide some insight that could guide her when it comes to making smart fashion choices while shopping at Goodwill. Below, she shares some of what she took away from our time together in her own words. Knowledge is fashion power, and we ALL have it in us to learn a few new tricks!

Dear Bjorn,

I had such a good time while you helped me find some amazing things last week at Goodwill. With your help my time at Goodwill was so much more productive than it usually is.

fashion fix upYou gave me many great tips, but my favorite is the fact that colors don’t have to always match. You showed me that colors I would never have put together could work with the correct accessories.

Lynn White Designer ShoesI have two favorite items, the brown suede boots and the faux suede brown jacket. I think I will wear both of these items quite often. The biggest surprise was the loafers you picked out with the white on top that at first I was not too excited about, but once I tried them on with the clothes and you taught me what items to wear them with, I looked at them in a whole new light.

lynn jean jacketCreating a unique style is all about what you feel good in because if you feel good in it chances are you will wear the items and look very stylish. Goodwill is a great place to get brand-name fashions at a price that everyone can afford.

As I tell people about our amazing morning together, I share the tips you gave me. I learned about what looks good on me and makes me feel good about myself. I tell them about starting with the jackets and coats and building your wardrobe from the outside in. You start with a few great pieces and then layer from there. It is a great idea to take inventory of what is in your closet and get rid of things you never wear or don’t feel confident wearing. Take those things to Goodwill and donate them because there is someone who will buy it and love it!  Thank you again so much for donating your time and helping me change the way that I will shop in the future. I will never forget our wonderful and very productive morning spent at Goodwill.

Take Care and I hope our paths cross again sometime in the future. Thanks for sharing your amazing fashion sense with me.

Lynn Highum

Well, needless to say we did have a great time. Lynn is a prime example of someone who supports the Goodwill mission by shopping our stores and donating. In return she received some confidence in the image she puts out to the world every day and the satisfaction of sharing her good fortune with others.  That really is a beautiful thing!
