Summer Clearance

Posted by Jamie Klinger-Krebs on Aug 21, 2013 1:46:00 PM

clearanceAs the end of summer approaches all too swiftly, its time to examine and possibly clear out the warm weather clothing from our closets, and prepare for the fall season just ahead. I know that this seems a tad premature, but now is the ideal time to try everything on and make some tough sartorial decisions. One of the first things that I do at this time of year, is carefully look at all the items I could have worn this summer, but for some reason didn’t. You know what I mean, the pieces you bought last year that you thought would work well with the wardrobe you already own but for the duration of the summer you overlooked them. If you’re like me, you probably have things that you NEVER wore this season or quite possibly the one previous! Well as they say, “use it, or lose it” and when it comes to good fashion choices it’s that simple.

If you have all your summer things organized in one spot, fantastic!  If not, take them out one by one, and ask yourself the following questions:

donations1. Did I wear this? If the answer is no, then it may be time to let it go into the donation box you’re starting … A good deal you say? Well, a great buy is only great if you actually use it. If not, out it should go.

2. Does it fit? This goes without saying, but many of us like to hang on to items that don’t fit with the idea that we will fit into it someday in the future.  This is not smart thinking, move on to items that are flattering and useful.

3. Could I wear this? Why haven’t I worn this? If your answer is yes to the first question, and I don’t know to the second, this is the perfect opportunity to figure out why. If you can’t come up with a way to wear it now before the season’s change, or a really good reason to keep it until next year, out it goes.

The best-kept secret of those who are always stylishly dressed, is that they understand the value of wearing the things that not only look great, but make us feel great about ourselves and the image we present to the world. Paring your wardrobe twice yearly is a fabulous way to make sure your style is always on point. This can be thought of as an exercise in knowing what we own, and why we own it!  Every time we purchase any item of clothing we should know when and how we would wear it. If you’ve got the time and the inclination to shop, you should also have the motivation to actually wear what you buy. That is the golden rule of being a snappy dresser!

Once you’ve determined those gently used items that you can part with, take them to the convenient drop off donation areas located at all our Goodwill Stores in the Southeastern Wisconsin area. You’ll be doing yourself a favor, and providing resources for others to have job training, and the chance to work.
