Fashion Fireworks for the Fourth

Posted by Jamie Klinger-Krebs on Jun 21, 2012 4:17:00 PM

In a few weeks our nation will celebrate its 236th birthday! As we all know, nothing says American like the good old red, white, and blue. This color combination has become a symbol of our patriotism and freedom, as well as our values and ideals. It’s also a classic color trifecta that works for Fourth of July celebrations, picnics, parades and just about any other summer activity. Adding just a few key elements to your wardrobe is a great way to salute the USA and your great fashion sense!

fourth of july decorClassic items in Old Glory’s colors are a great way to start feeling the love for your country. Look at the Goodwill store nearby for items that fit the bill. From there you may travel down the long road of unique items created just for this special day.

Red

Red is one of those colors that can be either the focus or an accent on any chic ensemble. A great summer dress that can go from a picnic to dinner on the town is a good bet. Jeans, shorts, skirts - the sky is the limit when it comes to this stand-alone shade. It balances many colors, not just white and blue.

White

Who doesn’t need at least one white button down dress shirt? If that’s not for you, look for smart shorts, slacks, or a skirt to add a backdrop for the drama that the stars and stripes can evoke! White is also a wonderful summer staple that helps to not only make you look cooler, but feel that way as well!

Blue

A navy separate, like a skirt, shorts, or slacks is a good basis for any classic combination. Since the warm weather should be in full effect by the Fourth, keep your eye out for cottons, linens, and other loosely woven fabrics to make sure you feel the breeze of freedom and stay fashionably fresh.

Stripes

Stars

Celestial is the way to go to elevate your fashion as well as celebrate your style. Classic star shapes will always be in favor when it comes to style. Embellished stars in metallic silver tones always look great when paired with other flag waving pieces in your wardrobe.

Accessories

Specialty items abound this time of year at our stores so pay close attention to the racks for flag emblazoned t-shirts, dresses and button downs. From silly attention getters, to full on Uncle Sam regalia, there’s a lot to be said for having at least one item that is just for fun. Try a hat, scarf, earrings, handbag, shoes, or anything else that works that old star spangled magic. How about showing some sparkle with something that has rhinestones, sequins or glitter? Like Katy Perry, you can light up the party with your own personal fireworks!

Not only are these looks festive, but also they’re fun to shop for at our favorite store. They can be a great conversation starter at any party you attend, and in addition bring the focus to the special day we’re proud to be celebrating.

“Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave, o’er the land of the free,” and the Goodwill retail store near you!
