Charmaine is the perfect illustration of my adage that all you need is “one great dress”. In this case, she’s wearing a classic shirtwaist dress in a small leopard print that buttons down the front. This Ralph Lauren designer dress was just $6.99 at my local Goodwill store. Don’t shy away from leopard prints! Just make sure the print looks rich in color and not cheap. A structured piece in leopard, such as a jacket or jeans, always works to create a stylish look. We simply added a wide belt in a soft brown, gold earrings, and a necklace from her own wardrobe. Beige Bandolino pumps were found by our model at Goodwill for $6.99—they coordinate but don’t dominate the leopard print. The brown leather designer purse was $14.99. Fashionable and professional is what I’d call this look!

Helena is wearing a great print here, but this time in her floral pattern skinny jeans. This particular pair is by designer Madewell and were just $4.99 at Goodwill. I thought it would be fun to play with a menswear look, so we used a light blue button-down dress shirt, a black necktie, and Chuck Taylor shoes from her own wardrobe to emulate a masculine style. To top it all off, we added a Mossimo blazer with faux leather insets ($5.99) and some attitude glasses in a burnt gold ($2.99). She looks like a rockstar doesn’t she? Ladies, take a look through the menswear department at Goodwill the next time you’re there. You may want to borrow something from the boys to elevate your own style!
Jennifer is doing denim—but not the usual jeans look. This is a great fitting denim dress with shirtwaist detailing, like the patch pockets and snap closures down the front. She bought this on one of her frequent trips to Goodwill for just $6.99. A denim piece that’s special, like this one, is a must-have for fall and winter layering. Speaking of layering, I added a cropped BCBG tweed coat with elbow patches that work quite well with the dress, it was $12.99. Bringing some color in is easy with a silk scarf that I found for $1.99, her own earrings add some sparkle and shine, and the ever-popular booties were just $6.99 at one of our well-organized stores. Look for special items like these to spice up your fall wardrobe, and if she added some tights and a heavier coat or sweater she’d be ready for the winter to come! Stylish and on-trend is what I would call this look. Jennifer really sparkles, doesn't she?
TJ is an aspiring actor and likes to have fun with what he wears. So, I went for a graphic t-shirt from Hanes for $2.99 with Mickey Mouse on it! As a student, TJ needs clothes that go the distance, and you can’t do better than some cool cargo pants—like these in a dark gray that I found for $2.99. They’re a great alternative to always wearing jeans. Topping it off is a super cool bomber-style jacket from Cherokee ($4.99) that’s made of sweatshirt material and denim. A great coat is an awesome addition to any young man's wardrobe. Finishing off the look are some Vans that TJ bought for himself at Goodwill for $6.99. Casual looks can be fun and fashionable if you know how to pull it all together (as he does). Playful and fun clothing also matches his upbeat personality!
Sam rhymes with glam right? So here she is showing us how to do a retro look right. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, finding a great dress is a key to having a successful wardrobe. I always look for unique details and styling when perusing the dress rack at my local Goodwill. I was familiar with the brand name “Stop Staring”, which is a company that designs vintage-looking dresses out of modern fabrics. This one was new with tags for just $7.99! It is primarily black with pink accents in the kick pleats, buttons and other details. This, combined with the styling of Impressions salon for a retro-looking hairdo, and we have a winning fashionable look on Sam. To keep it modern, we opted to use her own peep-toe booties. Wow, is the only word I can think of!
Isaiah looks fresh for the end of summer in this casually-fun outfit. Our models often bring items that they already have with them to the photo shoot, and these shorts are his own! Playing off the salmon color, I added a graphic t-shirt in gray-and-blue from Marvel Comics that was $3.99, and then I gave it a preppy spin with this pink-and-blue striped button down from designer Ralph Lauren priced at $6.99. The brown lace-ups are his own addition to this colorful and funky look. Remember, putting it all together is part of the joy of getting dressed and with Goodwill you can do it for a lot less!
Joel is ready to go off to college in this great combination of wearable pieces. Let’s face it, you just can’t have too many cool t-shirts at your disposal! This graphic comic book inspired tee from Old Navy in shades of blue was just $3.99. Add to that the plaid shorts that should be a summer staple for any guy of any age. These blue-and-red plaid Standard Cloth shorts were a great bargain at $4.99. Topping it all off is an Abercrombie & Fitch button-down shirt in ever popular pink gingham. Who’s to say guys can’t pull off pink? This great fitting shirt was just $5.99 and can be worn year-round with slacks, jeans, or dress pants too. Button downs are great for use in the summer as a light weight coat or jacket to protect from the sun or even to ward off the chill after sunset. Joel’s own classic white trainers add the finishing touch and just a nod to the preppy collegiate look. Once again, great style is knowing how to combine individual items into statements of style!
Mia is sporting a great late-summer look that consists of just a few choice elements. This look is really about the power behind a great dress. There is no classic a pattern like black-and-white stripes. This tank shift dress from H&M is a summer breeze away from a party—or a day in the city shopping. At $7.99 it has terrific appeal to both the eye and pocketbook! To keep it young and fresh we added a striking white wide-brimmed hat (that’s foldable and packable) that I found at Goodwill for $3.99. It’s playful and a great source of sun protection too! Finishing off this simple and chic outfit are Mia’s own peep toe stacked-heel booties. These booties are all the rage right now and on into next year, too! Take it from me, you just can’t go wrong with a few easy pieces.
Helena is wearing a combination of separates that suggest a funky, bohemian look. For example, the sleeveless top is a perfect way to beat the heat and feel the sun on your skin. This Liz Claiborne blouse had some interesting details and a chic blue-and-green pattern with banding at the bottom. It had a very finished, yet casual look, and for $3.99, it’s a great option instead of a knit top. We paired it with her own black chino slacks and Chuck Taylor tennis shoes—basic pieces that every gal or guy should have! This takes the look to a casual and fun place! The kicker here is the brilliant cuff that was so interesting I thought it was the only accessory she needed! And, was just $2.99! Putting yourself together is easy with a few cool, summery pieces that you might find at your local Goodwill the next time you’re shopping or donating!
Charley shows us how a perfect print and a stylish dress can really take you to memorable summer fashion—instantly! This Soprano brand floral print dress was just $6.99. The deep saturation of the colors in the print itself is why this dress works so well. I always love a dark background floral because it feels a bit more sophisticated and has a greater style impact. This is more “summer fun” than “Little House on the Prairie” for sure! Charley had her favorite flip flops with her when we took these photos, and they’re always a perfect companion to a great summer dress. I added some golden yellow “attitude glasses” to bring a little humor and playfulness to this awesome look. TIP: Go to the dress rack first when hitting one of our well-organized Goodwill stores and see what you can score!
