Our lovely model-mom Katy wears the color of spring in this fresh and amazing look. All it takes is one awesome dress to create your own high-fashion style. (Check out the dress section at Goodwill first!) This one is Laundry by Shelly Segal ($12.99) and features a green-and-white floral print, as well as ruching detail at the cuffs and waist. We accented it with a gold necklace ($4.99) and earrings ($4.99) as well as some high heeled sandals by Jessica Simpson, also in metallic gold ($6.99). This is an outfit that could grace any stylish occasion anywhere in the world for under $30!
You can always find something amazing when shopping at Goodwill, but if you need a few tips on how to put together the perfect outfit, then you've come to the right place! Each month we highlight two ensembles created by Fashion Expert, Bjorn Nasett using items found at Goodwill. The models you see here are actual Goodwill shoppers who were kind enough to donate their time to participate in our annual Amazing Looks Photo Shoot. All were styled by Kitty Tierney of Impressions and photographed by Jessica Kaminski of The Refinery Photo Studio in Milwaukee.

Vera dresses up a denim 2-piece that she found at Goodwill for $8.99. We added her own yellow t-shirt to set off the dark denim. But, the star of the show is a fabulous set of jewelry featuring a necklace, earrings, bracelet and ring ($49.99). This set could be worn separately in multiple ways and would be a great high-quality accessory investment. See how it takes this denim duo to new fashion heights? We also used some beige (linen/burlap) textured espadrilles ($4.99) to keep the focus on Vera and the sparkle she brings to yet another seriously amazing look.
Jack is blooming with fashion power in this sophisticated ensemble suitable for any dressy event at school or anywhere. Who says floral isn't for guys? When it’s as cool as this floral print tie from Clubfellow ($2.99) it steals the show! Did you know Goodwill is a great place for men’s dress shirts? I found this one from J.Lindberg in black cotton for $5.99. A black button-down shirt is always a smart look with a blazer like this Alan Flusser brand corduroy jacket that our model purchased before the photo shoot for $5.99. The jacket pairs up quite well with the DKNY jeans that were $6.99. Pulling it all together is the model’s own boots in rich brown leather. Always take a moment to see if your items “go together” rather than match. That’s what makes a stylish look like this one work so perfectly. It’s a balance between dressy and casual and it suits Jack quite well!
Mary is a veteran Goodwill supporter and provided us with most of the items for this look from her own purchases! Jeans are always the basis for a hip, modern look and these jean from Mossimo were just $4.99. Layering on more springtime style with a cotton tunic shirt in navy blue from Merona ($4.99) provides a great backdrop for the floral scarf ($2.99) and the mint green GAP trench coat that was a great bargain at $9.99. Just for playful fun, we added her own sunglasses as well as copper-metallic leather slip-ons by VANS for $6.99. This look is polished and poised, yet fun and casual. Spring style is the name of the game for Mary!
Christopher likes to laugh and have fun, so a casual mix of patterns in green tones work perfectly for this time of year. As one of our model contest winners, Christopher had a great time posing for these joyful photos. He’s wearing some brown cotton Levi chinos that were $9.99, and then we layered a green-and-brown striped t-shirt ($3.99) under a green-and-brown plaid short-sleeved button up ($4.99) for a fashion-forward look. Because his personality is outgoing I also added some interesting, futuristic sunglasses in bright green ($.99) that complemented his quest to clown for the camera! Every day can be a celebration if you mix all the ingredients you can find at Goodwill with a cool character like Chris!
Kaitlyn is ready for spring by wearing trends that signal the return of sunshine and warmer weather! Metallic looks don’t have to be futuristic and cold. Here we have a metallic-painted sweater from H&M for $6.99 that keeps the vibe light because the texture feels warm and inviting. The sweater also works perfectly with her Aeropostale jeans that were $4.99. With these two pieces as a base, I went for bright springtime accents like combat boots in a periwinkle blue/green floral pattern ($9.99), a mint green watch ($14.99), a hand-painted wooden bracelet ($2.99), and a leather bracelet in mint green ($4.99) This effortless look is easy to replicate by shopping at any of our well-organized stores and searching for items that lift the lid off of winter and promise the warmth and freshness of the season to come.
Goodwill shopper and single mom, Katy, is doing a dressed-up daytime casual look this month. Layering is the way to go for fashion, as well as warmth during these long winter months. Here we did another look with jeans we found for $4.99 from AG, then we added a cotton t-shirt from J Crew ($5.99) as a base and topped it off with a great boucle knit cardigan in light blue from K&K for $4.99. Pretty basic right? Well, we didn’t stop there. Jewelry and accessories are what MAKE a tee and jeans look! I assembled some awesome accessories from Retique (Goodwill’s boutique store located in Milwaukee’s Third Ward) starting with a necklace for $6.99, earrings for $4.99, and a great statement scarab-type ring that was well priced at $14.99. Continuing our gold standard, we utilized a metallic leather belt from Anne Klein that was only 99 cents, and some gold Sperry top sider slip-ons ($6.99). Why not elevate your daytime looks with some great pieces like this from Goodwill?
Kurt is ready for anything his day might throw him in this easy, yet sophisticated take on casual menswear. Kurt buys many of his clothes at Goodwill, and his wife also enjoys the thrill of the hunt! When it came time to do our photo shoot, I simply asked Kurt to bring along some of his favorite items he purchased at our stores. Then I found a wool, Nordstrom mock turtleneck in black for $19.99 at Retique (Goodwill’s boutique store located in Milwaukee’s Third Ward). I thought it might work great with these essentials he found at Goodwill: Levi’s brand jeans - $5.99, ostrich leather cowboy boots in black - $19.99, and a fantastic Pele Studio leather jacket in brown that was just $29.99! Now these are pieces that can work for any man’s wardrobe! Next time you’re out shopping at Goodwill make sure to look for jeans, jackets, and boots because you can never have enough of these go-to items in your wardrobe!
Jack gets the winter look just right in this well-put together ensemble! Looking for outerwear at Goodwill is a great way to multiply your cold weather stockpile of fashions! Jack went shopping shortly before our photo shoot and was thrilled to find this MAIZE/NY quilted down coat for just $14.99. This kind of coat is both lightweight and cozy and perfect for when the seasonal winds blow. This coat has an upscale look thanks to the zipper elements and quilting design. I added in some tan skinny chinos from H&M that were $4.99 at Goodwill, and a vintage ski sweater from former Milwaukee and nationwide retailer, GIMBELS that I also found at Goodwill for $6.99. TIP: Knowing vintage brands always helps you find amazing items at our stores! Jack brought along his own Timberland boots which complimented the style vibes of this awesome outfit perfectly. Goodwill comes to the rescue again for affordable and fun winter choices for every member of the family!
Vera goes dramatic and monochromatic in this classy, dressed up look. If you read my Amazing Looks descriptions each month, you’ll see that here we did exactly what I always preach—make sure to always check out the coats and dresses first when you’re shopping at Goodwill. Why? Because a great coat or dress usually holds up well, and this is definitely the case with what Vera is wearing here. In fact, Vera herself found this beautiful black wool with fur trim coat from Alorna/NY at a Goodwill store near her home in Illinois. So, all I had to do was pair it with a beautiful Ralph Lauren dress I found at Goodwill for $9.99. The shoes were also from Goodwill (also found by Vera). This is definitely a perfect picture of elegance, style, and sophistication all in one outfit! Bravo for this kick-off to a new and more fashionable year ahead.
