After losing her job in the culinary industry, Isamar turned to Goodwill’s Workforce Connection Center (WCC) in Bay View to help find essential work just as the pandemic began.
As a single mother, thought of starting over was overwhelming, however her job coach, Edilma, encouraged her not to give up and told her she believed in her.
Edilma (pictured right) helped Isamar (pictured left) craft a new resume and provided interview advice. Soon after, she landed a job as a transporter at a local hospital. Isamar finds the work meaningful stating, “I love my patients, I treat my patients like my family members.”
Although Isamar is back at work, she maintains her connection to Goodwill. She continues to receive regular calls from Edilma adding, “she’s checking up on me to see how I’m doing at work, how I’m liking my position, and making sure I am feeling comfortable.”
At the Workforce Connection Centers, the support doesn’t end when the job seeker finds employment.
“It’s not just... here is your resume; it’s more than that because the idea is not only getting the job but keeping the job and, building a career so that they’re able to support their families," Edilma says.
